The wait is finally over and readers across Canada, the USA, and around the world are back to getting their much-needed dose of entertaining drama in the Morningstar series.
You see, well known Canadian Author, DJ Sherratt, just released Chasing the Morningstar – The Final Chapter in the Morningstar Trilogy, and fans are busy reading each page intensely, getting their cliffhanger fix from the previous works, Chasing Charlie (2104), and Chasing New York (2015), all published by AuthorHouse, headquartered in Bloomington, Indiana.
“The new book actually answers the first two books. It fills in the last chapter of the whole Morningstar Series and brings Chasing Charlie right round into a circle and the story,” explains Sherratt during an interview. “Readers were left with a huge cliffhanger at the end of Chasing New York, so I am really thrilled that they get to see how everything finally unfolds.”
Readers of Chasing New York were all dying to know what had happened to musical superstar Chase Morningstar’s two-year-old daughter, Poppy. Kidnapped and long-thought dead, she stuns Chase with a simple handshake after his final concert and propels the Morningstar’s into another captivating and exciting saga. Now, the rest of their incredible story unfolds. After fabricating their deaths, Poppy’s maniacal stepmother is determined to keep them hidden. Encouraged by a supernatural guide, the child’s true genetics begin to shine through and when a sudden tragedy initiates an unexpected new beginning, more truths unravel, eventually culminating in an epic Morningstar reunion. Supported by Chase, Charlie and a new best friend, Poppy sets off on an adventurous exploration of her musical roots. She follows in her family’s footsteps until a malicious act of deceit, a desperate secret and a devious murderer threatens all she holds dear. Is the future of her gifted lineage in jeopardy? Poppy asks one last request of her beloved uncle, Charlie Morningstar and thus, The Morningstar Trilogy is complete.
“Charlie is a generational saga, starting in the 1930s, where you meet the patriarch of the musical Morningstar family, and through the generations of the family and their specific musical gift, because they’re all extremely musically gifted. And you really follow the story of Charlie Morningstar, who is a phenomenal blues guitarist, but he doesn’t want fame and fortune. And you never know why until you read the book. Chasing Charlie is the name of the first book, and the name of the band,” explains Sherratt.
Chasing New York brings out even more drama, and it’s another amazing read.
“Chase Morningstar is Charlie’s younger brother and he’s been in the shadows of his older brother for many years, and Chase has stars in his eyes, and he wants fame and fortune that his brother never had. So, he branches off from Charlie and the band Chasing Charlie and he goes to seek fame and fortune in New York. But as his fame and fortune goes like a shooting star across the sky, the trajectory of his life behind the scenes go straight down,” says Sherratt. “And so, he deals with tragedy, a lot of it, while life on the stage is unbelievable. Fame follows him and so does tragedy. The third novel brings everything together where you learn about some of the tragedies that Chase faced, and I don’t want to give too much away but you are introduced to a new Morningstar character and they have their own saga to go through and they also have their own incredible musical gift, completely different. There are other family members, and they branch off and bit and make their own genre of music through their own evolution and they suffer trials and tribulations and tragedies as well. So, all three books are a generational saga of a musically gifted family who suffer triumphs and failures as they try and make their way on the stage in the limelight and behind the scenes. And there’s drama, there’s sex, there’s romance, there’s mystery, there’s murder, there’s suspense – this series has it all.”
Sherratt reveals that her inspiration for the trilogy hit her while driving from London to Windsor to see her grandkids.

And every time I heard this song, I got this vision in my head of a man singing the song to a woman in a bar. And he just focused in laser vision on her. And every time the song played, the story just got bigger and bigger and bigger in my head of this man, and what he was all about, and why he loved her. I am not a quiet person, but I was one day during our car ride, prompting my husband to ask: ‘What are you thinking about?’ So, I told him this story about this musician, and he said, ‘You have to write that story.’ What’s really cool is that I got busy writing, and here I am three books later.”
“That song by Ray Charles just made me burst with creativity,” recalls Sherratt. “I wrote it like it was a movie in my head, and when I sat down to write, it just all fell into place.”
With the launch of each book, friends and fans alike wanted to read more, and they demanded more, too.
“After the first book, everyone was asking me: ‘So, where is the second one?’ And after my second book, everyone kept asking for more. I am humbled and excited with all the positive response from readers, and it means the world that I am now a published author, giving readers a story that are hooked on.”
Sherratt has lots of people to credit for the success of her three books that are all a smash hit on the book market, like her family, her sister-in-law for photography work, her husband Mark, her friends, and colleagues at work.
“Everyone has been so incredibly supportive, and they are the key reason why the trilogy has been selling like wildfire,” she says.
“My new bookis grittier, that’s for sure. It’s not all sex, drugs, and rock and roll. It runs the gamut of genres, and it’s getting some really great reviews on Amazon and Goodreads,” she says.
