The fundraising campaign to support Alexandria-Marie Deane is already a resounding success and it’s only at its halfway point.
You see, Waters Edge Salon & Spa in downtown Burlington kicked off their campaign for ‘Burlington’s Little Fighter’ only a month ago and donations are pouring in from the community. The fundraising campaign runs until the end of February.
Alexandria is a 3 ½ year-old girl battling brain cancer and her story is touching in every sense.
The campaign is also receiving a tremendous amount of support from Clinton Howell, who is the founder and owner of H2 Systems Inc. in Burlington and a popular philanthropist in Halton. Howell is also a real estate representative with Re/Max Escarpment Realty Inc., Brokerage.
Alexandria was recently diagnosed with diencephalic syndrome, which produced a tumour almost the size of an egg behind her eyes. She is now undergoing new and experimental cancer treatment at SickKids Hospital in Toronto.
For the entire month of January and February, proceeds from all children’s haircuts at Waters Edge Salon & Spa will go directly to Alexandria and her family.
Through donations and children’s haircuts, Waters Edge has already raised $2,000, and Howell has raised almost $1,000. The goal is to raise $5,000 or more.
Liza-Bouchard Bain and Delia Taylor, both who own the popular salon and spa, are thrilled with the support from the local community.
“It’s so amazing to see everyone come together and help out ‘Burlington’s Little Fighter’ and her family,” says Bain. “We know our fundraising campaign will make a positive difference for Alexandria and her family, and most of all our efforts will put a smile on all their faces.”

Taylor states, “Since launching our initiative for Alexandria last month, we are confident we will meet our campaign goal of raising $5,000, or surpassing it. It’s so great to see everyone coming together and supporting Alexandria and her family.”
Howell is also elated with the success of the campaign.
Howell is devoted to helping a number of organizations like Easter Seals Ontario, The Burlington Performing Arts Centre, Smilezone, and the Joseph Brant Hospital Foundation. He also currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Art Gallery of Burlington.
“It’s so touching to see the community rally together to help a little girl win her battle with cancer,” says Howell. “The support from our community will go a long, long way and I encourage every to make a contribution this month to help ‘Burlington’s Little Fighter.”
Alexandria has already undergone 70 weeks of chemotherapy, and doctors at McMaster Children’s Hospital recently removed half of her tumour.
While Alexandria is slowly improving, her parents, Adam and Cassandra, have their own challenges. Adam and Cassandra are not employed and both rely on disability support from the government. As well, neither of them have a driver’s license and no access to transportation which makes it very difficult to get Alexandria to the plethora of appointments locally and at SickKids.
Cassandra is currently earning her high school equivalency diploma and Adam remains at home looking after his daughter and ensures that she gets to and from school each day.
