Burlington, ON – A popular salon and spa located in downtown Burlington, ON, is holding a big fundraising campaign to help a local family who are experiencing some very tough times. And they are also getting huge support for their cause from Clinton Howell, who is the founder and owner of H2 Systems Inc. in Burlington and real estate representative with Re/Max Escarpment Realty Inc., Brokerage .
You see, Adam and Cassandra Deane have a 3 ½ year-old daughter who is battling brain cancer. Now known as ‘Burlington’s Little Fighter,’ Alexandria-Marie has been diagnosed with diencephalic syndrome, which produced a tumour almost the size of an egg behind her eyes.
Delia Taylor and Liza-Bouchard Bain, the founders and owners of Waters Edge Salon & Spa on Old Lakeshore Road, are helping the family ring in the New Year with lots of love from their clientele.
For the entire month of January and February, proceeds from children’s haircuts at Waters Edge Salon & Spa will go directly to Alexandria and her family.
“When we learned of Alexandria’s story, we knew right away that we had to do something really special to help the family out,” says Liza. “We know our fundraising campaign will make a positive difference for Alexandria and her family and most of all will put a smile on all their faces.”
Taylor echoes her view.
“We are hosting this campaign to give back to a Burlington family who needs so much support right now,” says Delia. “We know our efforts in helping ‘Burlington’s Little Fighter’ will mean so much to Adam, Cassandra and their daughter Alexandria.”
Howell, a popular philanthropist in Halton, is thrilled to be helping Waters Edge Salon and Spa’s generous outreach campaign.
Howell is devoted to supporting a number of organizations like Easter Seals Ontario, The Burlington Performing Arts Centre, Smilezone, and the Joseph Brant Hospital Foundation. He also currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Art Gallery of Burlington.

He adds, “Alexandria and her family are experiencing some very hard times and we want to take the lead and bring the community together and do all we can to help ‘Burlington’s Little Fighter’ and her family. Our goal is to raise as much funds as we can while helping a family in need.”
Alexandria has already undergone 70 weeks of chemotherapy, and doctors at McMaster Children’s Hospital recently removed half of her tumour. It is expected that Alexandria will begin her next phase of chemotherapy in mid-January.
While Alexandria is slowly improving, the Deanes have their own challenges. Adam and Cassandra are not employed and both rely on disability support from the government. As well, neither of them have a driver’s license and no access to transportation which makes it very difficult to get Alexandria to the plethora of appointments with doctors at McMaster and in Burlington.
Cassandra is currently earning her high school equivalency diploma and Adam remains at home looking after his daughter and ensures she gets to and from school each day.
A formal cheque presentation will be made to the family in early March.
Adam says that he and his family are thrilled with the fundraising campaign.
“The support from Waters Edge Salon and Spa means the world to us,” says Adam. “We are so moved and deeply touched with this truly genuine act of kindness. Words just can’t describe with how good we feel knowing that a local business is going full out to help our daughter and family during this difficult time.”
