Lennox Lewis is front and centre again, but this time he is not in the boxing ring.
The former undisputed heavyweight champion of the world has made the cover of HOSS magazine’s winter issue (Jan/Feb 2016).
HOSS magazine, known as one of North America’s leading home lifestyle magazines, is giving its readers the inside scoop on the legendary boxer.
The magazine’s feature, “Inside the Lion’s Lair: At Home with Former Heavyweight Champion of the World and Olympic Gold Medalist,” offers readers a ringside seat to Lewis’s personal life, where he chats about what he’s been up to since retiring. The magazine hits the newsstands on January 18, 2016.
In the feature interview, Lewis, who recently turned 50 years old, reveals his quest to put Canadian boxers on the world stage.
“Canada has nurtured me, not only with my education but also because I participated in two Olympics representing Canada. And coming back there, I realize that the reason I had to leave was because there were no professional opportunities. The reality is, 25 years later, opportunities for boxers are still extremely limited in Canada,” says Lewis. “When you turn pro, American promoters say: ‘Yeah, we can use you, but you’re going to have to come down here.’ Moving makes it difficult for Canadian fighters to be successful because it introduces so many other external factors to consider—things that are unrelated to your talent and ability. So if we’re saying I’m the best boxer to come out of Canada, then I’m the one that should come back and open the door for other Canadians. I know firsthand the plight of trying to turn professional when the mecca for boxing is not in your country.”
In addition, in his exclusive interview with HOSS, Lewis also discloses his long list of projects he’s involved in.
“There are tons of other things that I’ve got in the works,” he says. “A clothing line, technology and my foundation. One of the aims of my foundation is to use the sport of boxing as a vehicle to empower and inspire the next generation of champions, as I know all too well that kids with too much idle time can find themselves in difficult situations. I’m working on a chess app too. And we’re working on my documentary. There have been documentaries about Mike Tyson. There have been documentaries about Muhammad Ali. And I know that a lot of people don’t know my history. They wonder: Who is this man? Where is he from? What’s his background? What is he like? I’m an enigma to a certain degree, and I realized that I don’t want to be one of these guys that dies, and then a documentary is released and everybody says: ‘What a great man.’ I want to be a living legend.”
He is also very involved with Marley Coffee, which is the first organic coffee from Blue Mountain.
“The aromatic aspects of Blue Mountain coffee are second to none,” he says.
In the feature interview, Lewis also gives readers a tour of his immaculate home overlooking the Caribbean Sea. He talks about the vibe of his home that is inviting and comfortable and the decor is an eclectic mix of worldly themes that eloquently blend in with the breathtaking scenery of Montego Bay.
“Up here, I have the best of both worlds,” Lewis explains when describing his home. “I have more of a ‘view from above’ perspective and I am more comfortable. The mountains give me more pleasure than the beaches.”

So, what’s Lewis’s next big event coming up?
He tells readers that he and his team at Global Legacy Boxing are planning a big fight in Toronto on March 29, 2016, to celebrate George Chuvalo fighting Muhammad Ali in Toronto 50 years ago. The headline is still being worked on, but the 50th anniversary of that fight is a big day in boxing history.
“The fact that Global Legacy is moving forward and promoting events such as these, shows our commitment to bringing boxing back to the masses,” he says. “And it is a step in the right direction for Canada to become a contender for boxing shows. Like I said, we’re trying to keep boxing alive in Canada and build it back up. People should watch for our boxing events because they’re going to be big. My aim is to put Canadian boxers on the world boxing stage.”
HOSS, Lennox Lewis and Global Legacy Boxing are jointly hosting a contest so that a lucky reader can win two free tickets to the boxing event to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the legendary 1966 Ali vs Chuvalo fight at Maple Leaf Gardens. The winner will also get to meet Lewis in person on the night of the fight. Anyone can enter this special contest by visiting www.hossmagazine.com
HOSS is also providing readers and the media with behind-the-scenes footage of Lewis giving a tour of his home in Jamaica, and an exclusive interview with him and the magazine’s publisher, Sean Rice.
